Shanghai Jiao Tong: integrating temperature into an electric mobility decision
Chinese programs / Industry and mobility / English edition
What you will learn to do
Prepare an operational comparison taking thermal conditions into account without making a technical diagnosis.
Original VOCE course. Chinese benchmark: vehicle thermal management in Shanghai Jiao Tong's electrification training. The case is fictional.
The course
The Shanghai Jiao Tong program includes vehicle thermal management. For a fleet manager, this subject serves as a reminder that equipment characteristics must be read within their operating conditions.
A fictional company has a vehicle that is completing its daily rounds. It plans to use it for two successive rounds and recharge between them. It uses the data observed during its pilot to promise the same result all year round.
The new organization changes the mission. The time available between rounds becomes a constraint. Charging and usage conditions must be described. The vehicle components have a thermal system whose role is to maintain suitable operating conditions.
The manager cannot deduce future performance from a single measurement nor attribute a variation to a component without expertise. They must request the conditions of the initial test and the information necessary to organize a test representative of the new service.
The professional question is one of availability. Will the vehicle be ready at the scheduled time, with the required operating conditions? The answer requires a test scope and observable data. The manufacturer's explanations must be distinguished from the results observed by the company.
The manager's training consists of asking these questions, documenting the limits, and directing technical points to the competent persons. It does not grant them authorization to intervene on the vehicle.
Your decision
The pilot was conducted on one round with a long break before recharging. The project plans for two rounds and a short break. Write down the conditions to be verified before reusing the pilot results.
Formulate an answer before opening the answer key.
Open the reasoned answer key
The new schedules, routes, and charging conditions must be described. Request a test corresponding to this organization and documentation on the applicable usage limits. Involve the professionals in charge of the vehicle and the infrastructure.
Do not transform the absence of incidents in the first pilot into proof for the new mission. The expected result is a verification of availability within a defined context, without improvised diagnosis or intervention on the components.
Production to keep
A test conditions sheet and questions to be validated by technical managers.
Evaluation criterion
The participant identifies the changing conditions and refuses to extrapolate a result without verification.
