Tsinghua and AGIBOT: moving from simulation to a robot at work
Chinese programs / Industry and mobility / English edition
What you will learn to do
Define what must be verified before using a robotic task in a real environment.
Documented reference: the Tsinghua / AGIBOT practical course announced for autumn 2026. The business case and the answer key are an original VOCE writing.
The course
On September 14, 2026, Tsinghua's electronics department presents a course developed with AGIBOT. It links simulation, data collection via teleoperation, training, and deployment on a robot. The teaching includes a project evaluated by a report and a demonstration.
For an industrial manager, this progression helps to understand why a robot video is not enough to decide on a purchase. The task must be defined in its real conditions. Moving an identical object always placed in the same spot is not the same task as handling variable objects in a production flow.
Consider a fictional workshop. A robot must pick up a part and place it in a bin. Management has seen ten successive successes. It knows neither the variety of parts used nor the time spent preparing each attempt.
The manager begins by defining the workspace: accepted objects, possible positions, and correct placement criteria. He then asks how errors are detected and how the task is resumed. Human intervention between two attempts must appear in the report.
The test must distinguish task success from contribution to the workshop's operation. A robot can succeed slowly and become the bottleneck that limits throughput. It may also require preparations that the demonstration does not make visible.
Simulation allows for the preparation of tests. On its own, it does not demonstrate behavior on the actual machine. Moving to the field requires validation defined by competent persons, in a suitable environment.
Your decision
Out of 100 fictional attempts, 92 placements are correct. Five require human repositioning and three fail. The supplier announces "97% success rate". What distinction do you request, and what elements must be measured before comparing this robot to the existing workstation?
Formulate an answer before opening the answer key.
Open the reasoned answer key
The supplier adds together autonomous successes and those obtained after assistance. Request to separate these results. It is necessary to know the total time, the number and duration of interventions, as well as the consequences of failures.
Also define the variety of objects tested and the success criteria. To compare with the existing workstation, use the same scope of task and quality. The figures in this exercise do not constitute a measurement of an AGIBOT robot.
Production to keep
A reception sheet including task scope, test conditions, interventions, and acceptance criteria.
Evaluation criterion
The participant distinguishes autonomous success from assisted success and requests the measurement conditions.
